“Love Broke Through”

“When love broke through

You found me in the darkness

Wanderin’ through the desert

I was hopeless fool

Now I’m hopelessly devoted

My chains are broken

And it all began with You

When love broke through”

-Toby Mac “Love Broke Through”

As I started scrolling through my playlist to find a song to share today, focused on 1 John 4:7-8, 12, this one was literally at the top. God definitely said “Here ya go!”

While the title is a no-brainer to share about God’s love, it was when I was listening to the song that I decided, and the lyrics above stood out to me. They speak of a time when you truly feel the love of God, and it breaks through, finding you in the darkness (I’m paraphrasing Toby here, of course).

I know that when this happens to us, when we feel and accept the love of God, we cannot help but be “hopelessly devoted” to Him and spread that love to others.

I know God’s love has always been there for me and in me. I know I showed love to others, but it wasn’t until I fully experienced that “when love broke through” moment that I started truly loving not only myself, my friends, and my family, but also began to see EVERYone as someone to love. The challenge, as always, is to continue growing in the ways I show love to others and, through this, reflect God’s love to them.
