“My life was changed
When I stepped into the water
Ain’t seen my chains
Since I gave ’em to the Father.
Hallelujah, I’ve been delivered
Where is my guilt?
Where is my shame?
I left it in the river!”
-Jamie MacDonald (“Left It In the River”)
Looking back there were many chains on me. Some I knew but ignored or brushed them off with, “It’s fine, I’m a good person, and besides I’m young. Doesn’t everyone do (insert bad choices and sin)?” Others I did not even realize were a chain at the time.
The best realization is that God broke those chains off of me through Jesus. Because of God’s love for me and because of Jesus I can leave those chains at the river as this song beautifully says.
As I write this there are still chains on me that God is working on and I have faith He will break those too!
As you read this, know God is doing the same in your life. He wants to break your chains, things that have a stronghold on your life and are keeping you from your true purpose, as well. God loves you and wants to set you free, bring all your troubles to Him today.
