Balance & focus. For my “Faith in Motion Monday,” I’m striving to keep these words in my mind as I start this week. Like many of us, I have many things pulling me in different directions. There are several things that I’m passionate about and I want to give my attention to, but of course, there are only so many hours in a day, right?!? This week, I want to make sure I am balanced and focused on what is truly important. That is one thing that is easy for me to identify, because I need to balance my life so that I can focus on God.

Matthew 14:28-31 came to mind as I’m setting my mindset for my week. In these verses, Peter sees Jesus walking on the water, and he says, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Jesus then responds, “Come.” Peter steps out in bold faith, and he is able to! However, as soon as the winds and waves around him start to grab his attention, he starts to sink. Peter cries out to Jesus to help and save him. Jesus reaches out and pulls him out, saying, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

I am definitely a Peter a lot! I can have my eyes set on Jesus and have bold faith. Then, another moment, the chaos of life around me can catch my attention too much, and I’m quickly pulled under the waves myself. It’s when we set our focus on God that we can find balance in our lives. No matter the chaos or stormy waves that are going on around us, if we focus on God, draw closer to Him, and call out to Him, He will be there to pull us out at the perfect time (God’s time). 

God, I pray for your help this week to keep my focus on You, regardless of any chaos, stress, or just busyness that this week will bring me. Thank you for always being there, ready to pull me from the waves. Amen.
