āJust do it!ā Ahh, the famous Nike quote we all know, but honestly, it is pretty perfect in certain situations. For today’s āThoughtful Thursday,ā I was reflecting on how this quote seemed to be what God was whispering in my ear recently with my writing.
Like most writers, Iām sure, I have had this idea for a book (well, actually a series) for a long time! Shocker, but I have always loved writing. Iām an avid reader, and I know not all big readers like or strive to write, but I do for sure. I loved scribbling on paper and my chalkboard growing up. I had the old school yellow flip notepads always on hand, and would clip pages together using a clothespin to make my books. But in second grade, I truly fell in love with it, and it had a lot to do with my teacher, Mrs. Morrow. Iāll definitely have to write a piece more on that another day.
I know, I know, Iām getting off trackāIām starting to call that my āwriterās squirrel momentā like when a dog loses focus on a squirrel, I definitely catch myself free writing like I do in my blog, and my mind jumps to another awesome story idea. Iām starting to listen and follow those ideas a little more, just like I do with Godās voice, which brings me back to my recent moment when I heard God tell me āJust do it!ā more than once. I kept circling back to my writing, my book idea, wanting to be an author (even if just for a few readers), wanting to share Jesus with others, and letting God speak through me in my writing.
Obviously, you can guess the ending to this. I am finally DOING IT! I have started this blog, which I love! I have been researching the genre I want to write in, Christian childrenās books for early readers. I am finding time to learn, mold, refine, and build my writing skills, too, through online courses. I even submitted a one-sheet this week to a publisher to see if my book and I are ready for the next step.
I know stepping out in obedience and āJust doing itā will lead me to things I cannot even imagine because I know in my heart that it is Godās voice, He loves me, and He has wonderful plans for me. If you are reading this and you have anything that you feel hesitant to do, just know Godās got you, too, and maybe all you need to do is āJust do it!ā

A rhythm of reflection and real faith, one day, one post, one spark at a time.
