I am a very visual person. When a concept is hard for me to comprehend, I tend to do better when I can see it. I love creating visuals! From fun to teaching, I create visuals all the time. Today I was thinking of my favorite verse, Matthew 5:16, and I wanted to dig around it a bit, but just visually, so I wanted to share it here, along with a few things that went through my mind as I created.
The first verse here, I visualized a city or buildings on a hill, of course, but I thought that the darkness surrounding it could get a little deeper. No matter what surrounds it, darkness cannot envelop it because the light is so bright. When our light of God is so bright within us, no circumstance can overtake it.

Verse 5:15 I started seeing lamps, but lamps of all types. My ‘lamp’ may look different than yours for many different reasons. It comes from a different location, it’s a different age, it has a different function, etc. However, if the lamp has the source plugged in, the lamp will do its job and shine. Our source to be plugged into is God, of course. We all have the capabilities to shine, but it is not until we are connected and build a relationship with God that we are able to shine. Now, once that is happening, we should show others. Not in a bragging way, but a way of encouragement for them to shine their light and get closer to God, too. So put that bright light of God up on a stand for the world to see!

The last verse, my fav, I added a picture of something I see a lot and I cannot help but sit or stand in awe for a moment or two EVERY time. It’s those light rays that come through clouds. I know, I know you may be thinking, “no big deal that happens like every day,” but it is so beautiful to me. I think of God’s light shining down on us, of course, but this verse reminds me that when my light and good deeds shine it is so that God can be praised through me. So just as those rays shine out of the clouds, I strive to shine out of the goodness of God so that others can see Him through me and my actions.
