Morning Feet

‘Don’t swing those legs over the side yet! Stop, pause, and talk to Him.’ These are the words I’ve been telling myself the last few weeks when I wake up. I have decided I do not want to rush or start the day without God. So I sit but mostly lie, ‘cuz well it’s morning, haha, taking a moment to talk with God.

I have heard this routine from other people for a while and always thought, ‘yeah, must be nice to have extra time like that. I have things to do when I wake up.’ Man, was I wrong! Now that I’ve started this, I have a different viewpoint. Now I’m not perfect and I never will be, but I at least find myself pausing even for a moment to focus on God before my feet hit the floor in the mornings. Doing this small change does NOT take up my time, rush me, or make me late for anything. It, in fact, prepares me better for the day. It reminds me of my purpose and who’s I am before my day actually starts. It sets not only my mind on God, but it sets my pace for the day. I do not feel as rushed, and I feel more peace even through a chaotic day.

Some mornings it has been a quick prayer. Other mornings it’s a quick chat: ‘Good morning, God! I love you. Let’s do this.’ Tougher days it is a lengthy conversation asking for God’s guidance for the day. Then there is the power of silence and sitting in God’s presence to center myself on Him. Whatever it may look like it has become an important part of my relationship with God. I feel closer to Him and I feel so loved that He takes that time with me each morning.

God, thank you for loving me so much that you listen to my sleepy morning prayers and chats each day. We know I’m not a natural morning person but I am glad my mornings start in love with you. I look forward to mornings now because I know I will spend time with you. Help me to make my morning feet stay in bed with you for a moment or two before I set my feet on my bedroom floor. Let those morning feet then walk in Your ways through the day listening to Your voice. Amen.
