“I know I’m who I am today

Because I knew you…

But because I knew you

I have been changed for good”

-’For Good’ from Wicked: For Good Movie

I am a huge movie buff! I haven’t been fortunate enough to see Wicked on Broadway, but I’ve watched the movie multiple times and just saw Wicked: For Good. I also am a nerd so I’ve read the book a few times, too.

I say all that to let ya know, I’m kinda a fan 😄When I was watching the scene of Glinda and Elphaba sing “For Good,” I couldn’t help but get teary-eyed seeing their love in friendship on the big screen. It is a beautiful song, well sung, of course, and was well wickedly magical.

Afterwards, the song was in my head, of course (I know I’m not the only one), and it didn’t take me long to start singing it myself to God & Jesus. While I love Wicked the movie, I love Jesus a whole lot more.

When we come to know Jesus, we cannot help but embrace Him, His teachings, and His word. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says it all: we are a “new creation” after we come to know Jesus, fully believe and accept what He did for us, sinners, so that we can have new life.

I know some may read this and think I can’t believe she watched Wicked as a Christian. I don’t judge anyone who doesn’t watch it for their own convictions, but as for me and my relationship with God, I love seeing Him in unlikely places. I love enjoying worldly things, like fantasy, and finding places where it helps me connect to God.

I also happened to read 1 Corinthians the same day I watched the movie. In this chapter, Paul addressed issues of eating food offered to idols. Paul talks of understanding that idols are not real, but it is important to realize that new believers may see a fellow believer eat this meat, and it might cause the new believer to stumble in faith. Paul was ultimately teaching a lesson of consideration and love. That our actions should be sensitive to the spiritual growth of others. So again as I don’t see anything wrong with watching Wicked, I realize that some may stumble watching it. I hope this explanation of how I view worldly things may help someone to do similar or to let you know it is okay for you to have your own convictions and abstain from things that you don’t feel like bring you closer to God.

Here is the most amazing thing: if you aren’t sure what you should do, you should ask God Himself. That is exactly what God would love, a conversation with you and a chance to grow closer.
