God’s Nudges

It was a simple moment, happens every day, but it tugged something deep in me today. I was sitting on the couch mindlessly petting my pup. I stopped to change the channel on the remote, but didn’t go back to my ‘job’ of petting him. Dog parents, you may know what’s coming next! It only took a few seconds before my hand was nudged by a cold, wet nose. My beagle was telling me, ‘Your job of petting and loving me is not finished yet!’ Of course, I went back to our cuddles as any good dog mom would. That’s when I realized I do the exact same thing with God AND God does the same thing to me! We nudge each other, but of course for very different reasons and in different ways.

I can definitely be like a needy beagle wanting my daily pet-sessions when I ask God over and over again for a certain item, relationship mend, feeling, or thought fixing, the list honestly goes on. I nudge God, asking Him for what I think I need. Of course, God is like me when my beagle nudges my hand, God listens and gives me what I need. That may or may not be what I thought I needed, but God definitely provides for me.

While I nudge because I think I need it or for selfish reasons, God, on the other hand, nudges me because He knows what I need and what is needed for His plans. God will nudge me to do that thing that makes me feel uncomfortable (usually a tell-tale sign for me that it’s what I need to do!). I feel nudges from God to be around certain people, connect with someone I wouldn’t normally connect with, or when to walk away. God nudges are sometimes easy to feel, and at other times, not so much. I pray that I stay open to them and keep following where God leads me.

There is a beauty in nudging when you recognize these instances. God wants us to nudge Him, and He will nudge us right back. Nudges are ways to strengthen relationships. Just as my beagle nudges my hand to give and get my love, God wants the same for your relationship with Him. My beagle and I have deeply bonded because I listen and respond to his nudges even when I don’t feel like it. God is ready to do the same. So go ahead and give God a nudge, He’s waiting.

See ya in the next post, with
