“The story of amazing love!” It says it all, doesn’t it? These words are lyrics from Chris Tomlin and Lauren Daigle’s song “Noel.” It is one of my favorite Christmas songs not only because of its beautiful sound, but also because the lyrics are simple yet powerful.

If you don’t know, ‘noel’ means Christmas, the day we recognize and celebrate the birth of Jesus. Birthdays in themselves can be exciting, but of course, Jesus’ birth is a day we can all rejoice. We celebrate this day each year because it is the day our Savior came to lift the heavy weight of our sins. God loves us so deeply that He gave His only Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice so that we can be saved by His grace. 

Grace has always been a word I heard tossed around, but never really thought of the true meaning. Grace is God’s gift to us. God knew we could not live righteously and sinlessly, so He sacrificed His Son for us. “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23) God’s grace is a gift we did not earn and do not have to repay. The only thing we are called to do is accept Jesus as our Savior and love God above all else.

May these lyrics help you remember the ‘story of amazing love’ that God gave His Son for us so that we may be made righteous through His grace. If you feel led, spend a few moments today with God to let Him know you love Him right back!
