I went to grab a book from my ever-growing TBR (To Be Read) last night, and a bright orange spine was calling my name: “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry” by John Mark Comer. Here’s the funny part: I have looked at this book many times and thought, “Ahhh, I’m too busy to get into that right now and really soak it in.” Can you believe that craziness?!? I was too busy to read a book about being too busy!
Confession time, I do not always read the Foreword in a book because, as you may guess, I’m too busy and need to get to the good stuff. I am so glad I did not follow that habit this time. Right in the first pages, I was hit with much-needed truth: “The average iPhone user touches his or her phone 2,617 times a day…What would my life be like if God touched my mind as frequently as I touch my iPhone?” (Foreword by John Ortberg)
Wow! That’s the wake-up call I needed. As I read that, I was on day two of my Lenten commitments, and one big one was a social media cutback, so this hit me hard. It saddened me that I had become attached to my phone rather than to God. This was confirmation and God telling me through this book that I am on the right path to begin to put that square piece of technology down more and pick up the most important direct line that I have, the lifeline to God, My Father.

See you in the next post,
with faith and a little fur 🐾
