Sunset. Sunrise. New beginning. Mercy.
The sun has not yet come up this morning as I sit down to spend time with God, reflect, and write here this morning.
I’m human, so as the week starts, my mind goes to some not-so-positive things, including an overwhelming feeling of how I’m going to make some bills meet this week, frustration with unsolved health issues, gloominess that comes with colder weather (I’m not a huge fan!), and more pressing feelings.
Then Lamentations 3:21-23 came to mind:
“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (NIV)

I don’t know about y’all, but this verse is like a warm blanket wrapped around my shivering body this cold, almost winter day. This verse reminds me of God’s faithfulness and deep love for us all. We all fall short and sin, but God knows this! God keeps His covenant even back in this Old Testament verse because God knows His plans to give His only Son, Jesus, so that we may be forgiven and have life.
When my mind goes to negative thoughts, I will keep verses like this to remember God is a loving, merciful God who brings me a new morning and a new beginning every morning.
God, help me to release any overwhelming, frustrated, gloominess that I feel this morning to embrace and celebrate the new day and week you have given me. I pray you fill me with hope, peace, joy, and love in place of these feelings. I thank you for my new start this morning and the exciting possibilities that come with it. Help me to know and feel that You are with me through everything this week. I love you, God. Amen.
