Turtle Thoughts: Slow Down & Sit In His Presence

Why do they always move so fast? What’s the big hurry? Are they hurt? Is someone in danger? It’s puzzling to me as I sit on my favorite thinking rock. My thinking rock is by a pond, right outside a really big rock with windows and doors. It even has windows stacked on top of each other! I heard one of them call it ‘work’ or ‘building.’ That’s another exhausting thing about humans: how they have so many words for one thing.

Their hurried footsteps always startle me and often interrupt my thoughts. Sometimes their feet go straight to an unknown location to me because, before I can even think about following them, they are out of sight. Other times, feet start in one direction, stop, then go the other direction, stop again, and return to the first direction. Very strange, I tell you!

But wait, it gets weirder! There are times I think they are going to finally slow down because their feet stop, but I notice they are looking at a talking rectangle. It sounds like other humans, and one time I even saw a tiny human inside this rectangle!! Later, I would figure out they call it their ‘phone,’ but they are weirdly attached and seem unable to function without it, almost like I can’t go too long without my yummy leafy greens.

When I’m alone by my favorite thinking rock, I tend to look up into the sky and think of all the good things I have. I think of my rock, my leafy greens, my family, and so many other happy memories, too. I naturally did this since I was little and never really knew the reason, other than it just felt right.

Then one day, a human left a book by my thinking rock. It was opened closer to the end, but I started reading it right where it happened to be opened. I fell in love instantly! There was a man who talked about loving everyone, helping others, and even healing sick people. I decided to take this book home since the careless human left it; they can get another easier than me, right? Well, wouldn’t you know, when I pushed it closed to move it, the title was one I hadn’t heard yet: ‘Bible.’ Something hit me in my mind and heart. I carried that book to my friend’s house because I just had to tell him all about it immediately!

This Bible from humans became an instant favorite not only for me but also for my friends and family. We couldn’t stop reading it and talking about it. Crazy thing: we would reread pages some days, and the meaning would change for us!

We couldn’t help but wonder why more humans weren’t out by my thinking rock, reading it too? But, no, sadly, more and more humans continue to have those hurried footsteps around the ‘work building’ day in and day out. That’s when I decided to leave the bible on my thinking rock each day, hoping that one human would pick it back up.

With lots of faith and a little fur 🐾
